About the Director
Christine Haroutounian is a writer, filmmaker, and producer working in Southern California and Armenia. She is one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film 2020. Her short, Fixed Water, had its world premiere in the Official Selection at the 2019 Palm Springs International ShortFest where it was introduced as the “most formally ambitious film” of the entire program by the co-director of programming. She has received several awards for artistic merit including the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Directing Fellowship Award and Shirley Clarke Memorial Fund Award. She completed her BA in Art from UCLA, where she studied photography under the mentorship of James Welling and Catherine Opie, and holds an MFA in Directing/Production from the UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television. Christine is currently teaching production and developing her first feature film, set in post-soviet Armenia. Her most recent film, Ashkhar (World), was shot in the Armenian countryside and chosen for Official Selection in the 2020 Palm Springs International ShortFest.
